1966 Professor Georg Zundel founded a private research institute known as the "Physikalisch-Technisches Laboratorium Berghof GmbH" in the university town of Tübingen. Its objective was to commercialise research results in the fields of electrochemistry, membrane filtration and plastics technology. This company became the nucleus of what is today known as the Berghof Group.

Today the Berghof Group is acknowledged worldwide as a provider of technically sophisticated, benefit-oriented industrial products and services.
